Saturday, March 4.--The Senate did not sit.
In the House Mr. Hemphill gave notice that he should on Thursday call up the bill making provisions for revolutionary officers, and on his motion the select committee were discharged and the subject referred to committee of the whole. The report of the select committee to the House is very able and decidedly in favor of the claims of the veterans of the revolution. Mr. Cook, of Illinois, laid a resolution on the table, proposing a reference of all the various amendments of the Constitution, now before the committee of the whole on the state of the Union, to a select committee.
Tuesday, March 7--In the Senate. On motion of Mr. Ellis, the preceding orders of the day were postponed for the purpose of taking up the bill to authorize the President of the United States to hold a treaty with the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes of Indians, and the bill having been amended it was ordered to be engrossed to a third reading.
In the House, the resolution offered some days ago, by Mr. Pearce, of R. Island, proposing the appointment of a committee to inquire whether it be expedient to make any amendment in the laws which regulate the coins of this country and foreign coins, and whether the Public convenience requires an additional number of United States' coins, and additional denominations of the same, was taken up, and after being amended by the mover, so as to refer the subject to the Committee of Ways and Means, the resolution was adopted.
Wednesday, March 8. The engrossed bill to enable the President of the U. States to hold a treaty with the Choctaw and Chickasaw nations of Indians, was read a third time, passed, and sent to the House for concurrence. The Senate then on motion of Mr. Sanford, (by a vote of 16 to 14) again took up the bill making appropriations for Fortifications, which was ordered to a third reading, and the Senate adjourned.
In the House, Mr. Wurts, from the select committee on the subject, reported, in part, an act to encourage Vaccination, which was twice read and committed.
The Speaker laid before the House a communication from the Navy Department, on the subject of Vaccination in the Navy, in reply to call from the House: which was, on motion of Mr. Condict, referred to the Select Committee on the general subject.
On motion of Mr. McLane, the House resolved itself into a Committee of the Whole, (Mr. Tomlinson in the chair,) to take into consideration the amendments of the Senate to the General Annual Appropriation Bill.
Thursday, March 9.--In the Senate, the bill making appropriation for the support of the government for the year 1826, was returned from the House, and their amendments were insisted on. On motion of Mr. Chambers, the consideration of Executive Business was resumed.
In the House, Mr. Whipple of New Hampshire, laid on the table a resolution calling on the President of the U. States, to communicate information relative to officers of the revolutionary army, on half pay, which was agreed to the following day.
On motion of Mr. Lathrop, of Mass. a committee was ordered to be appointed on the subject of an adjournment of the present session, and a earlier meeting of the next.
In committee of the whole on the amendment to the Constitution, Mr. Everett, of Massachusetts, says the National Journal, took the floor and in a speech of near three hours in length, conspicuous for its eloquence and ability, opposed the resolutions of Mr. McDuffie.
Friday, March 10.--The Senate almost immediately took up the Executive Business, on motion of Mr. Chambers, 19 to 13.
In the House, a resolution was agreed to with a view to require all vessels sailing in the waters of the U. States, to carry conspicuous lights in the night time. On a reduction by the Senate in the appropriation bill for the support of government, the House agreed to insist on their disagreement. The bill for appropriating a township of land to the deaf and dumb asylum in Kentucky, passed to a third reading.
