Extract of a letter from one of the Members of Assembly of the State of South-Carolina, dated February 26.
"Among the laws passed this session, are, one Act for confiscating the estates and banishing the persons of 238 citizens: another for amercing about 200 persons, 12 per cent. on the whole value of their estates; another for granting pardon to a number of persons who came from the enemy and surrendered themselves agreeable to the Governor's proclamation of the 27th of September last, on condition of their paying 10 per cent. on the whole value of their estates. By these acts, the public will take immediately into their possession at least a million and a half sterling, out of which 800 soldiers are to be raised, to fill our Continental line."
