HOT SPRINGS MAN IS
FIGHTING FOR KAISER
J. F. BISCHOF, FORMER
ALHAMBRA
BATH
EMPLOYEE, WRITES
TO FRIEND IN THIS CITY.

J. F. Bischof, formerly employed at
the Alhambra bath house, who left
this city immediately after his mar-
riage for a honeymoon trip to Ger-
many, his former home, and who was
in that country when the Kaiser de-
clared war, has written a letter to
Mr. Witte, his friend in this city,
which was dated from Verdun, France,
September 28.

Bischof had obtained leave of ab-
sence from the German hospital
corps, but when war was declared,
like thousands of other patriotic
Americans, flocked to the German
colors and it was not long before he
was in the midst of the fighting. At
present he is with the Thirteenth
Army Corps, 124 Regiment. In his
letter to Mr. Witte, which was written
in German, Bischof declares that he
has already seen considerable fight-
ing and infers that England and not
Germany is responsible for the pres-
ent great conflict.

So far as France is concerned, Bischof intimates that it won't be long
before that country is in complete
control of the German forces, and
states that many French prisoners
that have been taken voluntarily sur-
rendered, being tired of the struggle.
"In one night," writes Bischof, "I
bound up the wounds of over 250 sol-
diers. Our artillery when it speaks
voices destruction. We'll be in
Paris by December 1, and it won't be
long before this war is over. I ex-
pect to be out of the service and back
in the United States by January."

Bischof also writes that the senti-
ment in the German army is that the
forces of the Kaiser cannot be beaten
and states that just as soon as the
Germans have
whipped England,
France and Belgium, the forces of the
Kaiser will give their attention to
Russia, who, states Bischof, will soon
be disposed of.
