Legion Team Is Honored With Big Barbecue

MISSION, Sept. 14--(Sp)--Honoring members of the American Legion ball team, recent winners of the city championship, a big barbecue was staged Tuesday night in Lions Park by the Legionnaires.

Later installation of officers was held at Legion Hall and a program given by the Mission Music club. Over 60 persons were present.

New officers are Claude Hilburn, commander; D. O. Sikes, vice-commander; Frank Coulter, adjutant; R. R. Sheeler, finance; and Jack Gray, Sergeant at Arms.

After a delicious steak barbecue the group adjourned to the Legion Hall where a musical program was presented. Mrs. Joe Cook played a violin solo, "Pale Moon," and Mrs. Arnold Shary gave a piano solo, "Two Larks."

"The Song of Love" from "Blossom Time" was a duet sung by Mrs. William T. Gibbs and Mrs. Sid L. Hardin. Mrs. Arnold Shary played all of the piano accompaniments for the program.

Leon Brown, Jr., presented the American Legion with a gavel a gift from himself and Mrs. Arnold Shary. In behalf of the members of the Mission Music club, gave the Legionnaires a gong.

Both were received with appropriate speeches of acceptance and appreciation by members of the Legion.

Plans were formulated for a special celebration of Armistice Day, the details of which will be announced at a later date.
