Whipping Post For Chicken Thief.
Bare back whipping would be the penalty for chicken stealing, turkey stealing, goose stealing, under the terms of a bill introduced in the house of delegates by Delegate Will F. Crow, of Marshall county.
The measure provides for the establishment of a whipping post at or near the court house of each county in a conspicuous place in full view of the public.
Any person entering a yard, pen or other enclosure or building, with the intent of taking contrary to law, any chickens or other poultry, would be subject to not less than twenty or not more than forty lashes, in addition to other punishment prescribed by law.
The same punishment would be imposed upon conviction of violation of several laws, including those relating to embezzlement, the transporting of liquor in cars, boats, etc., and the receipt of support from prostitutes.
