MIAMI - (UPI) - Quarterback Francis Tarkenton, a preaching passer with a sling-shot arm, left Missouri without a prayer in the Orange Bowl Friday, when he threw touchdown strikes of 29 and 33 yards in leading Georgia to a 14-0 victory before 75,280 fans.
Tarkenton, a native of Athens, Ga., passed 29 yards to halfback Bill McKenny in the first period and 33 yards to end Aaron Box in the third period for the payoff touchdowns.
Although stubbornly gang-tackling Missouri outgained Georgia throughout most of the sunny, 76-degree afternoon, the Tigers' offense sputtered three times, once after reaching the 15 yard line and twice at the 10 yard line.
As a result, Missouri simply extended its sad record of never having won a bowl game in six tries since 1940. The triumph was Georgia's fourth in six bowl games, including two Orange Bowl wins.

Two intercepted passes by quarterback Charlie Britt, a superb defensive job by end Gordon Belkley and halfback Bobby Walden's punting also played an important part in the Bulldogs' victory.
PUNTING RECORD SET
Walden set an Orange Bowl punting record by averaging 46.8 yards on seven kicks.
Georgia, which won the Southeastern Conference championship with a 9-1 regular season record and earned the No. 5 rating of the UPI Board of Coaches, simply was too much of a clutch team for slower, outmanned Missouri.
