The Richmond Enquirer states, that General Jackson is on his way to Pensacola, having accepted the appointment of Governor of Florida. "The Hornet will sail in about ten days for Havana, to obtain an order from the captain general of Cuba for the delivery of Florida to the American government. Captain Reid will meet General Jackson at Pensacola with this document. The Enquirer mentions upon authority that the amount of claims under the Florida treaty is about 20 millions; that with respect to Mr. Meade's claim, the Secretary of State made a report to the Senate, who took no order upon the matter; that the Secretary is of opinion, that the claim, being once admitted by Spain, is still a fair claim upon her treasury and that Mr. Meade ought to apply to Spain for it. That gentleman however thinks differently, and has memorialized the President upon the subject.
The Savannah Republican states that Col. George Walton, of Georgia, has been appointed Secretary of State for the newly acquired territory of Florida.
It is said, the candidates for the office of Commissioner under the Spanish Treaty amount to nearly one hundred.
