Lieut. Col. Riley, 2d Infantry, with a detachment of sixty men, left Palatka on the 24th inst in the steamer Charleston, and were taken up the St. Johns as far as Spring Garden Lake, from which place they proceed to the everglades on a scout after Sam Jones, who is known to be in that part of the territory. Col. R. has two Indian guides with him, who have promised to conduct him to Sam's hiding places.
From what we can gather, the prospect of closing the war continues to be cheering.
