An incident at Jerusalem has furnished pabulum to the national vanity so copiously exhibited in the Paris journals. A mob took umbrage at the presence of a flag-staff before the French consulate, and tore it down; the French Ambassador to the Porte demanded satisfaction for the insult. and it was given—the Pacha of Jerusalem dismissed, his successor to make a formal visit of excuse to the consul, the French flag to be displayed at Beyrout, the capital of the province, and saluted with twenty one guns.
