George M. Weston, formerly of Maine, where he edited the Augusta Age with ability for years, proposes to commence in Washington, in September, a new paper, devoted to the principles of the Republican party, in opposition to the Administration. It is to be called the Republic, and will be published weekly and semi-weekly. Mr. Weston was formerly a Democrat, and is a vigorous and effective newspaper writer, and will be assisted in the editorial department of the Republic by Daniel R. Goodloe of North Carolina, which will thus fulfil Mr. Buchanan's original purpose, in regard to the Union, of having a Northern and a Southern editor. The enterprise is endorsed and warmly commended by Francis P. Blair.
