Roosevelt Says He Will Keep Out
Turns Down Committee Who Ask Him to Come to Rescue of Wisconsin.

Washington, June 1. - President Roosevelt again made it clear that he will not permit himself to be drawn into local political contests. A delegation of Wisconsin Republicans, consisting of W. D. Connor, chairman of the state committee; W. L. Houser, secretary of state; Irvine L. Lenroot, speaker of the Wisconsin assembly; C. C. Gittings, and H. P. Myrick, editor of the Milwaukee Free Press, called on the president to discuss Wisconsin politics.

They are supporters of Governor La Follette.

Their visit was prompted by the recent call on the president of Senator Spooner, who presented to him the anti-LaFollette side of the Wisconsin situation.

The president has listened to the statements of both sides, but he informed both definitely that he would have nothing to do with the contest in any way.

Later Myrick, Gittings and Connor were closeted with Postmaster General Payne, the acting chairman of the Republican national committee.

The delegation filed with Payne what was practically a notice of contest in behalf of the four delegates-at-large elected by the LaFollette faction to the national Republican convention, claiming that they are the rightfully elected representatives-at-large of the state.
