Congress Considers Bill to Place Alaska Surface Carriers Under I.C.C. Rule

WASHINGTON, (AP) - Three bills designed to place all surface transportation in Alaska under the Interstate Commerce Commission were introduced today by Sen. Warren G. Magnuson (D-Wash.), chairman of the Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committee.

One bill would transfer jurisdiction over water transportation between Alaska and other states from the Maritime Board to the Interstate Commerce Commission.

Another bill would give the I.C.C. jurisdiction over the Alaska Railroad.

The third would provide "grandfather" rights for motor carriers and freight forwarders operating in Alaska.
