JACOBS GIVES JOY TO MEXICAN FANS
MEXICO CITY. Jan. 14.-(AP)-
Sports circles in this Mexican capital were enthusiastic today over the prospects of Mike Jacobs, New York boxing promoter, staging a big international fight here in the spring.
(Jacobs said in New York Saturday he had been asked to put on a big fight card in Mexico City and that it probably would be held in April when no fights are scheduled at Madison Square Garden.)
"The idea is admirable and the time and place could not have been better chosen for a successful fight," said one experienced sports editor. "Mexico has for the first time a champion in Juan Zurita, idol of her boxing fans. If he is matched with such an opponent as Beau Jack or any other of four or five good ones who should be available, a crowd to overflowing is a certainty."
Sports authorities agreed the only place having sufficient capacity is the bull ring which can seat 25,000 people and, with the erection of ringside seats, can accommodate 30,000.
