The West Aggrieved—Time was certain to bring about a little rivalry between the Eastern and Western States, in the sphere of Government. It has arrived, it seems, sooner than was anticipated, being hastened, no doubt, by the accession of Lincoln's party to power. Western journals comment upon the fact that New England, with a population but little greater than Ohio, has twelve United States Senators. Eleven of her twelve Senators are Chairmen of Senate Committees. There are but twenty-one of these Committees; so the three millions of people in New England have more Chairmen than the remaining fifteen millions of people in the United States. This is the most odious sectionalism ever witnessed in the American Government, and it comes from those who have been loudest in reproaching the South for that quality. New England, with her tremendous representation in the Senate, is now practically controlling the Government. The Cincinnati Enquirer predicts that there will be a revolt in the West, ere long, against this New England Senate oligarchy.
