From Amelia, we received information from a respectable quarter that, on the 25th of last month, a schooner from Turk's Island, arrived at Fernandina. She had on board a number of disbanded English officers, who came in expectation of finding MacGregor in command, and of joining his forces; but who, on learning that he had reached Nassau, took passage for Venezuela on board the Congress, commodore Parker. Prize goods, at Fernandina, were selling high; and the bickering between the troops of colonel Irwin and Aury's dusky brigands still continued. Much as we have at heart the independence of South America and the emancipation of the Floridas, we had rather that they should remain in bondage forever, than see them liberated through the agency of the savages of St. Domingo; than whom we cannot certainly have, along our southern frontier, more disagreeable neighbors. It is hoped that their commander may take timely measures to remove them, or perhaps he will receive a more unwelcome visit than he yet dreams of.
