Full Text
On Tuesday last, as a man and his wife were attempting to pass the bridge at the upper end of the town, called Waterman's bridge (which was rendered very difficult, by reason of the great quantity of rain which fell the night before) their horses slipped off the side of the cross way into a ditch, where the water was deep, and current running strong; they both unavoidably fell into the water, and were carried some ways down the stream, but meeting with a friendly tree in their passage, they embraced it, till they were afforded assistance from several people who were witnesses of their deplorable situation. The horses and saddles were also saved; but the saddle-bags which contained a quantity of wearing apparel, and about 50 dollars in cash, have not, as yet, been found.
