Full Text
A woman of decent appearance applied last week at the dwelling of a respectable gentleman in this city to the lady of the house, and stated, "that she had just met the gentleman going out, and had applied to him for a small donation to aid in relieving a very meritorious and distressed family, for which she was soliciting assistance: that he said he had no bank notes of small value in his pocket, and directed her to call and receive the money from his wife."
The lady believing the artful tale, which was wholly a fabrication, gave the sum demanded. We have been assured that several instances of similar impositions have been practised in this city within the last two or three weeks.
