The Affair in Louisville.—It will be recollected that Mr. Bliss was recently shot in Louisville, by Godfrey Pope, the editor of the Sun newspaper of that city. We learn from the Louisville Journal, received this morning, that Mr. Bliss died of his wound on Thursday last. He was thirty-one years of age. A post mortem examination was made which showed that the pistol ball entered the right arm a little above the elbow, and into the body at the armpit, penetrated the chest between the fourth and fifth ribs, passed through the posterior part of the upper lobe of the right lung, struck the concave portion of the upper edge of the sixth rib, about four inches from the vertebral column; then passed into the spinal column between the 6th and 7th vertebrae, cutting the spinal cord in two except a mere thread, lodged in the opposite side of the vertebra, and exposing the ball in full view when the canal was sawed open. The intercostal artery was cut near the vertebrae. The wound in the lung, and the amount of coagulated blood in the chest, showed conclusively that the wound would have been eminently dangerous, even if the ball had not penetrated the spine.

The Journal states that a coroner's inquest was held on the body, and after the examination of some testimony, the jury returned a verdict of murder against Godfrey Pope, Esq., in pursuance of which a coroner's warrant was issued against Mr. Pope, and placed in the hands of the sheriff, who arrested him at his own residence, at 6 o'clock, and lodged him in jail. Mr. P. immediately applied to the Hon J. J. Marshall, judge of the Circuit Court, for a writ of habeas corpus, and that the argument upon it would be heard at the opening of the court on Friday morning last.
