Full Text

Humbuggery. Among the stratagems of the Administration to entrap the Young Men into their ranks, and to enlist them under the Custom House Captains, is that of attempting to create the belief that nearly all the young men join their party when they become voters. It was paraded in the Star, a week or two after election, that 14 or 15 young men in Ryegate took the Freeman's Oath, and voted, all but two or three of them, the Van Buren ticket. Meeting with one of these young men a week since, we asked him if it was as represented. He replied, that 14 took the oath-7 voted the Van Buren ticket, and 7 the genuine Democratic Whig ticket. So it goes-such stories are spread abroad for effect;-they are mere gammon-to deceive the young men, and to induce them to support their authors for office, and the rotten, beggarly, and dishonest Administration of Martin Van Buren;-to feed still longer the hungry crew of petty officials whom he has quartered upon the National Treasury.
