Rockdale, Special to The Herald:

Rockdale, August 12.-The second bale of new cotton was bought to-day by James Rosenthal, and shipped to Wolston, W. H. & Victor, Galveston. It weighed five hundred and eighty pounds, and sold for ten and a half cents. The first bale was shipped by Samuel Cohen, some two weeks since to J. Jalonick & Co., Galveston, and only sold for nine and three quarter cents.

There have been one hundred and forty-six cars of stock shipped from Taylor since July 1, and seventy-three from this place. The impression among some few people that Rockdale would only do a small business after the road was built on west, has thus far failed to be realized. It still has all the appearances of being a place of great importance, and is doing the business of four or five adjacent counties.

Weather warm, and business generally good.
