TO THE POOR

God has espoused your cause, and his ears are open to your afflictions insomuch that he that showeth pity to you lendeth to the Lord. Another thing may comfort you. The most of the prophets and apostles were poor in this world; and the Son of man was so poor that once he had not where to lay his head. God never set a high estimation on this world's goods; so he has distributed them to his children with a sparing hand. But though God doth espouse the cause of the poor, you are particularly in danger of one sin; and this is envying the rich. But if you would be rich in another world commit your ways to the Lord.
