The Berks & Schuylkill Journal contains the proceedings of a large county meeting of the friends of Harrison and Tyler, held in Reading on Monday the 4th inst. for the purpose of appointing delegates to represent Berks county in the State Convention at Harrisburg, to nominate a candidate for Governor. A number of excellent resolutions were passed, and among others one instructing the delegates to support the Hon. John Banks, as the favorite candidate of the Harrison democrats of Berks county for the office of Governor.
From the evidence before us we have every reason to believe that the Hon. John Banks will be the candidate of the friends of Harrison for the next Governor of Pennsylvania. The West, particularly, leads off in his support. The papers of Mercer, Crawford, Erie, and other counties, are enthusiastic in his support, while many in the middle and eastern sections of the State have declared their preference for him over all others. They urge his claims upon his sterling honesty, his abilities, and as every way calculated to sustain the present harmony of the party.--Del. Republican.
