Event Details
The hundred girls set out from St. Paul's hospital about ten in the morning, all uniformly clothed, and were met by their intended husbands in the great square; from whence they all went to the metropolitan church, and received the benediction from the Archbishop. They then proceeded to the palace, where an entertainment was provided for them, at which the Great Duke and Duchess were present. The purses, in which the portions were delivered, had on them these words: Dives et pauper obviaverunt ibi. In the evening there was a ball, and the salon was illuminated with above two thousand wax lights.
