ONE ON WHISKEY

It surely beats the dickens,
No matter where you go,
Amount of whisk there is
In every town you know.

You see it on their faces;
You see it on their nose;
You see it as they stagger,
As down the street they go.

I'se down there at Decatur,
Not very long ago.
And there I met Will Farlow.
The conversation goes:

Will said it beat the dickens
That he could go to town,
Can't find a drop of whiskey
Or even still be found.

But somehow all the boys can
That's looking for a drink.
They drop in but a minute
And there they spend their chink

And then you see them stagger,
As down the streets you tell
They are the devil's partner,
He knows them very well.

But William, they're not looking
For men like you and me.
They're looking for the topers
That drink their Whis-k-e.

But boys, here do take warning
And listen just once more—
If you don't stop your drinking
The devil will get you sure.
