WILL DIVIDE THE EXPENSE BETWEEN THEM.
London, Jan. 12. In spite of the comparative poverty of the British royal family, due to the excessive increase in the cost of living, it is announced that the wedding of Princess Mary, only daughter of the king and queen, to Viscount Lascelles is to cost nearly $150,000. It will be the costliest function of its kind since the wedding of King George. While no date has been set it is understood that the ceremony will be performed some time between February 20 and April 1.
The largest single item of expense will be the floral decorations at St. James' chapel, where the vows will be exchanged. They will cost $10,000, which is exactly double the figure paid at the wedding of King George and Queen Mary. Next comes the fee payable to the archbishop of Canterbury, who will read the greater part of the wedding service. The thousand dollars is a high price since the royal bounty, with three additional at clergy, a thriving congregation, English church style, will receive $200 and the organist will receive $1,000. King George will pay all the floral arranging, a 50 per cent increase over what was paid at his own wedding.
Groom Pay Half
It is understood that Lascelles who is extremely wealthy, has agreed to pay half of the wine rates. One of his gifts to his bride will be $100,000. He has already settled $50,000 upon her.
