Parnell Testimonial Fund Endorsed by Priests
Chicago, June 5.—An appeal to the Irishmen of America will be published here tomorrow, with the approval of the Irish national league, soliciting from all Irish people and all sympathizers of the Irish, subscriptions toward the Parnell testimonial. All contributions should be sent to the Rev. J. J. Coraty, Worcester, Mass., treasurer Parnell's testimonial fund. List contributors will be published. The appeal is signed by representative Irishmen from nearly every state and territory in the Union, including chief officers of the Irish national societies, eight congressmen, five senators, ten Catholic priests, three Protestant ministers and several millionaires, including Eugene Kelly, banker, New York; P. H. Kelly, merchant, St. Paul; Timothy Foley, mine owner, Colorado; John Fitzgerald, land owner, Nebraska; Thomas Lynch, distiller, Chicago. Much interest will be attached to the address, in view of the fact that it was written by two priests, Rev. P. J. McKenna, of Hudson, Massachusetts and Rev. Charles O'Reilly, Detroit, and priests are acting as treasurers.
