On Friday, when his Majesty was returning from the House, as soon as the state coach came from under the Horse Guards it was surrounded by a very great mob, who ran up to St. James's by each side of it, and, among some other high indignities shown by them, exclaimed, in his hearing, "Wilkes for ever! no Luttrell!" and continued doing so until his Majesty got out at the palace.

When the House of Commons took under consideration the election for the county of Middlesex, George Onslow, Esq. moved that the sheriffs ought to have returned H. L. Luttrell, Esq. and not John Wilkes, Esq. which motion was seconded by Sir A. Gilmour, Lord Clare, Charles Jenkinson, Attorney General, Sir Fletcher Norton, S. Fox, Lord North, J. Dyon, Counsellor Thurlow, Col. Onslow, Hans Stanley. They were opposed by Alderman Beckford, Col. Barre, T. Townshend, C. W. Cornwall, Sergeant Glynn, John Aubrey, James Townsend, Esq. George Grenville, Esq. Sir William Meredith, Sir George Savile, Count Phipps, Esq. Sir Joseph Mawbey, John Sawbridge, Esq. William Dowdeswell, Esq.
