Ex-Mayor Circulates Petition to Council, Asking That Special Election be Called to Vote on Municipal Ownership of Gas and Electric Plants.

Ex-Mayor F. G. Pierce, who has been active in his opposition to the Darling franchise thru his interest for the municipal ownership of public utilities, today started the circulation of a petition that will be presented to the council, asking that a special election be called to vote on the question.

A total of 200 signatures is required to the petition before it goes before the council, and this afternoon Mr. Pierce said that he would have more than the required number before the petition was submitted.

A meeting will be called, probably for early next week, at which time it is expected that an organization to back the movement will be perfected.
