SALEM, February 1.

Capt. Benjamin Crowninshield, in the brig Hope, arrived here, on Sunday last, from Jamaica, but last from the Mole. Eleven days ago, in lat. 35. long. 73. he spoke with the ship Jay, Captain Haskell, out 13 weeks from London, bound to Virginia.

Capt. Crowninshield left Jamaica on the 23d of December, and informs, that, on the Monday following, the ports of that island were again to be shut against the American trade, and without a probability of their being opened in future:--That it was said the Commander in Chief had been censured for admitting American vessels in the manner he had done; and that Gen. Grant, the hero who could conquer (or march through) America with 2000 men, was coming out from England as Governor of that island.
