With 25 girls between the ages of seven and 10 years already registered, preparations were being made this week to organize two Brownie Scout troops in Whiteville.
Mrs. Belton B. Thompson, Brownie Scout leader, announced that another meeting will be held at the Girl Scout Shack on Monday afternoon, at 3 o'clock and requested that all children interested in joining be in attendance. It is necessary for parents to accompany the girls for registration.
The Brownie Scout officers in addition to Mrs. Thompson are Mrs. C. B. Floyd, Mrs. Herbert Phifer, Mrs. Raymond Crutchfield, Mrs. H. L. Lyon, Jr., Mrs. J. K. Council and Mrs. J. A. Guiton who are assistant leaders.
Coming here for the original registration meeting Monday were Mrs. Harvey Glazier, Mrs. Charles Berry and Miss Dorothy Wells, Brownie Scout leaders in Wilmington, who assisted the local group in formulating a program for Whiteville. Mrs. G. C. Rogers introduced the speakers.
Requirements for becoming Brownie Scouts include attendance upon four meetings, learning the pledge and payment of 50 cents for annual dues.
The Brownie Scout movement was inaugurated here to meet the needs of the young girls who have not yet reached the Girl Scout age.
