Full Text

New York, May 6.

Distressing accident happening yesterday afternoon, arising from the disgusting practice of suffering swine to run at large in the streets. A litter of piglings, passing through Henry street with their grunting dam, attracted the attention of a child about three years of age, which immediately set about cultivating an intimacy by running among them, and striving to catch them in his little arms. The familiarity not meeting with the approbation of the swinish mother, she commenced a most furious attack upon the infant—mangling it shockingly, and nearly tearing out one of its eyes, and, but for the interference of some persons passing by, would have killed it on the spot.
