Remodeling of the Bank of Kodiak, at an estimated cost of $10,000 is now in progress. The lobby space of the bank proper will not be changed much, but in the remodeling, the Insurance Department will gain a small amount of space, the entrance will be changed, and the ACS office will be rearranged. The building is 11 years old, and, according to Marshall Crutcher, president, it is in need of concrete pads under the foundation walls, deep drainage to keep water out of the basement, cross ventilation and similar practical matters. The insurance office will be almost doubled in size to keep pace with the expanding business of that office, Crutcher pointed out. There will be a private conference area and a door directly into the bank lobby.
A new stairway is to be built, by agreement with the ACS, that will serve the entire upstairs area. Currently there are two, one for the ACS and one for the Crutcher apartment and Dr. E. J. Sullivan's office. The stair will start in a new foyer, near the present front door of the bank. Capt. Larry Bucy's office will be moved and the ACS business office re-arranged. A wash room will be built upstairs for the ACS. The basement of the bank will have an outside entry on the south side of the building. New aluminum facing will be put on the front of the building, new fluorescent lighting installed throughout, and the banking chamber will be sound proofed and a rubber or asphalt tile floor laid.
It is possible, Crutcher said, that in the spring the bank may extend its building 16 feet to the rear with a full concrete basement and two full floors above. If such a plan is adopted, the apartment will include that area, and new office space will be made of the present living room and bedroom.
