Democrats Successful in Municipal Campaign.
McAlester, Okla., Sept. 20.-The first election under a new charter providing for commission form of government was held here today. An effort was made to keep the election out of politics. Leading citizens nominated a ticket composed of republicans and democrats. The democrats and republicans each nominated straight party tickets, the latter being withdrawn Saturday.
The democrats elected their whole ticket by majorities ranging from 69 to 115. Pete Hanraty, defeated candidate for chief mine inspector, was elected mayor; H. F. Schreiner and Wallace Bond, commissioners.
Negroes were not allowed to vote.
