What is this article about?
Elisha White denies authoring or knowing about the 'BENEVOLENCE' piece published May 23, 1767, in Purdie & Dixon's paper, which wrongly prejudiced some gentlemen against him. Despite swearing an oath, he requests Benevolence to publicly clear his name and remove the false impressions.

GENTLEMEN,
The piece you published in your paper of the 23d of May, 1767, signed BENEVOLENCE, has unjustly fixed prejudices in the minds of some Gentlemen, who conceive I maliciously intended to wound them by the said performance. In order, therefore, to free myself from the charge, I have voluntarily made oath that I was neither the author nor privy to it; notwithstanding which the false evidence glares with such light that I have reason to believe the prejudices are not altogether obliterated. This is, therefore, to request Mr. Benevolence to do me that justice which he knows I deserve, and free me from the ill impressions which very undeservedly operates against me from his benevolence.
I am your humble servant,
ELISHA WHITE.
