COMMUNICATION.

On "Valentine's eve," (Tuesday, last week) the young ladies of this town met, as usual, to draw "Valentines," and apparently spent the evening very cheerful, but at intervals were dejected on account of the war. The young men were called to defend their injured and bleeding country, and how the contest would terminate they knew not. On separating to their homes, with these impressions on their minds, and retiring to rest, they placed these Valentines under their pillows--not knowing what a day might bring forth.

But behold at early dawn of Valentine's day, to their great surprise and joy, their ears saluted with the joyful sound of Peace! The loud pealing bell echoed to the skies--fair daughters of Columbia, arise! The wars are now over the young men return with honor from the field of battle and the toils of war. Soldiers, like brave Cincinnatus, return again to their various and laudable vocations. The young men now get married--by industry and economy, they will provide for their families, enjoy their country's independence, which their fathers so nobly obtained, and which their sons have now so bravely defended.

May kind heaven now grant Peace and Plenty, order, good government, and happiness, "under our own vine and fig tree, and none to make them afraid."
