Full Text

Thanks, Noble Duke.

Martinsburg Statesman.

Mr. Robert Simpson has been appointed postmaster at Wheeling vice Mr. Hugh Sterling removed. The appointment is said to have been an excellent one, and by no one was it more heartily endorsed than by the editor of the Register, who was himself an applicant for the position. It is but due to Mr. Taney to say that he exhibited a most manly and true Democrat spirit. It is really refreshing in these days of jealousy, bickering and soreheadedness to see a dignified acquiescence in the result of an honorable contest.
