HYDRAULIC RAM FURNISHES THE
BUILDINGS WITH WATER
FROM GOOD SPRING.
A Rifie hydraulic engine has been installed at the poor farm to pump water from springs to a reservoir which has a capacity of 5000 gallons and which is located on a hill above the farm.
An unusual feature with the engine is that it can be operated with other water than that pumped. This feature is necessary for it to perform the work required of it in this instance, as the flow of the spring is not sufficient to operate a ram. The water used to operate the engine is taken from a nearby creek.
The engine was put in operation Friday. The reservoir gives the water a head of 30 feet. When the faucets in the house were opened the water rushed forth with great force.
There are now only five regular patients at the poor farm. With one exception these are all old men over 60 years of age. The exception is a young man of about 25 years of age who is feeble minded.
