SEATTLE HALIBUT FLEET TIEUP IN HANDS OF UNION

SEATTLE, June 24--(AP)--Members of the Deep Sea Fishermens Union were called upon to vote this afternoon upon an employers' offer to end the season-long tieup which has kept the Seattle Halibut Fleet off the banks since May 1.

The meeting was called for 1 p.m., S. E. Strom, Chairman of the Union's Executive Committee, said.

The union has rejected other employer offers since negotiations broke down.

State Director of Fisheries Milo Moore announced last night that representatives of both sides had reached an agreement, but the terms were not disclosed.

The Fishing Vessel Owners' Association has sought larger "catch shares" per boat to pay for unemployment compensation and other taxes.

Should the dispute end within the next few days, sizeable catches are still possible in area No. 3 Westward from Cape Spencer in Southeastern Alaska, fishermen said.

Meantime, reports reached here that the United Fishermen and Allied Workers' Union had instructed its members in British Columbia ports not to place ice or bait aboard 14 halibut vessels which have already sailed from Seattle manned by their owners and skippers. They are enroute to area 3.
