REGARDING HEALTH.—From the Biennial Report of the State Board of Health, before us, we learn some facts regarding the healthy character of certain sections of our State, which we deem of some interest. It is well known that the counties of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Diego are continually preached up by their local papers as the most healthy localities on this coast. We have never said much in regard to the healthy climate we possess, but as the old saying goes the truth will out, as has come out in this report and shows that Auburn is one of the most healthy localities in the State. The total number of deaths in Auburn surroundings including a population of 500 from the 1st of July 1873 to the 30th of December was only 15, being six per one thousand of population. During the same period San Diego county had 11.3 deaths per the thousand. In contrast the city of Los Angeles and surroundings the number of deaths to each one thousand of population was, during the same time, 24.4 and is it wonderful the percentage was the same, being more than four deaths to one in Auburn. Los Angeles and Santa Barbara according to the population to one Dixon in Watsonville Folsom Bridgeport and Fairfield were the only percentage places of deaths mentioned in said report. Auburn.
