A wandering Tartar.--Several Indians from the west entered a German church in Philadelphia during service--were much surprised at what they saw and heard--except one, to whom neither the organ nor the other church ornaments seemed new. He observed a man sitting before him with a large scar on his face. After service, he went up to him, and addressed him in German: "How do you do, David?" "Why, (said the man in surprise) I'm well; but I don't know you." The Indian replied, "I knew you in Germany." He then described his parents: his father had been a baker--his oven stood in such a place; the Indian had seen him kicked by a horse when small, and had carried him into the house: he was acknowledged to be correct in his account. But the party had shortly before been examining a ship, as they had never seen one; and it appeared from all that could be learned, that the Indian had arrived at Philadelphia from Germany by the way of Bering's Straits, and belonged to a tribe of wandering Tartars.
