New Tougaloo Presidents Inauguration Set
NATIONALLY KNOWN LEADERS IN CHURCH AND EDUCATION TO ATTEND CEREMONY
Tougaloo, Miss - National interest centers in the inauguration Sunday April 4, here, of Dr. Harold C. Warren as new president of Tougaloo college.
Leading up to the inaugural ceremony will be seminars all day Friday, April 2, under the theme "The Satisfying and Rewarding Uses of Leisure": the formal dedication of Brownlee Hall with Dr. Douglas Horton as guest speaker, a concert featuring the choirs of Jackson and Tougaloo Colleges, and an evening reception in honor of the new president, all Saturday April 3.
President Elect Warren, who was graduated from Princeton U. in 1912 studied at New College, Edinburgh, Scotland and was graduated from McCormick Theological Seminary in 1915, will deliver the inaugural address at morning exercises beginning at 11 o'clock. An annual meeting of trustees Sunday afternoon ends the important week end.
Dr. Warren, in addition to carrying on special studies at the University of Chicago in 1931-'36 when he pastored in the Windy City, has completed residence work for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education at the University of Pittsburgh, which he shall have conferred upon him at the completion of his thesis.
The new Tougaloo president received his high school education at Swarthmore Preparatory School in Pennsylvania. In college, he was a varsity debater, football player, wrestler and swimmer. Still active, he plays a sound game of golf and can pilot an airplane.
Dr. Warren, in accepting the presidency of Tougaloo, left behind him a fruitful ministerial career. His former pastorates were First Presbyterian Church, Walla Walla, Washington, 1919- '20: Trumbull Avenue Presbyterian Church. Detroit, 1921-'31; South Shore Presbyterian Church, Chicago, 1931-'38; and, finally, First Presbyterian Church. Warren, Pa., where his church membership was 1,385 and where, the past year, the membership raised $31,000 for congregation expenses and an additional $10,402 for missionary benevolences. Fifty-three members were added in the last six months alone.
A singular fact about Dr. Warren's ministry is that he was never obliged to leave any church he was pastoring. In every instance, he went from a large church to an even larger church. He worked effectively and satisfactorily with trustees in every administrative role he filled as pastor.
A series of Seminars and discussion periods under the general heading "The Satisfying and Rewarding Uses of Leisure" will be fitting part of the Dedication of Brownlee Hall and the Inauguration of President Warren to be
