SHEFFIELD,

MEETING to PETITION for PEACE

SHEFFIELD, Aug. 11.

In pursuance of information by public advertisement from the Constitutional Society of this place, the friends of Peace and Reform assembled upon Crook's Moor, to the number of ten thousand at least, for the purpose of taking into consideration, the propriety of petitioning our Sovereign, in this hour of public calamity and distress, to use his efforts towards restoring the blessings of Peace, to this suffering, impoverished, and bleeding country.

An address to his Majesty passed. After which a number of spirited, and manly resolutions were read, one by one, and unanimously agreed to. The purport of one was,

"That the innumerable calamities, brought upon the unfortunate people of this country, are occasioned by the present cruel, unjust and unnecessary War: that they, the Constitutional Society of Sheffield, are firm and real friends to peace and reform."
