COLUMBUS AVE. A.M.E. ZION CHURCH
Rev. James C. Brown, D.D. Pastor
Last Sunday morning's service was glorious, the pastor speaking from text found in the Book of Nehemiah, Sixth Chapter, and taking as his theme. "Firmness In Our Work." This message was delivered very beautifully. Everyone that heard it found the sermon interesting. The message dealt with the prophet Nehemiah weeping over the destruction of Jerusalem. The people of that city were very wicked. thus vexing God so that He just gave up and let destruction come upon them. Nehemiah. being a Godfearing man, prayed without ceasing that God would forgive them of their sins. His prayer was not in vain. A friend came to him in his plight. Finding out the trouble and hearing that the Walls of Jerusalem were torn down. he offered to help Nehemiah rebuild the city. They set to work but before completion of the building some citizens came begging Nehemiah to stop work on the walls. Nehemiah did not listen but kept on working. "The trouble with our churches is that too many of us like to tear things down, when we see people trying to work for the Kingdom. Too many of us need to get on our knees and pray that God take the devil out of our hearts, and make us more loving and understanding." declared the pastor.
Preceding the message, a solo was rendered by Mrs. Dovie Porter, followed by another great church anthem. We are very glad to have Mrs. Brown, wife of our pastor. a member of our Gospel Choir. We are in need of more members to come and help us in the singing.-
