BOSTON, September 19. It was stated in yesterday's Centinel, that advices were received in town by a captain Doane, who had lately arrived from England, that forty sail of American vessels had been recently condemned in England. This article having excited considerable attention, we were induced to call on captain Doane, and have been informed by him, that the above statement was extremely incorrect: He merely states to us, that previous to his leaving England, which was on the 2d of August, it was reported to him, that since April last, there had been upwards of forty sail of American vessels sent into the different ports of England; that several of them had been condemned: but that the principal part had either been released, and again sailed, or were detained on various pretensions. At this particular moment, it behoves the printers of newspapers to be extremely circumspect in what they admit on a subject of such importance as the above, wherein the feelings and interests of the largest and most respectable class of our fellow citizens are so deeply concerned.
