The Boston Transcript says: "The Atlantic and Pacific temporary settlement between the Atchison and St. Louis and San Francisco companies has been formally ratified by both corporations. It is understood that the St. Louis and San Francisco company stood six to seven in favor of the Atchison and Seligman plan against Messrs. Gould and Huntington, both of whom are now enquiring: 'What in thunder did we buy the St. Louis and San Francisco stock for if we can not control its action?' By the settlement, the Atchison and San Francisco companies advance each $200,000 and the syndicate $200,000 more to the Atlantic and Pacific and take security upon proceeds of land sales now in negotiation."
