MILITARY POWER of the United States.
It appears from official records that the standing Army of the United States at present, numbers 10,129; commissioned officers, 196; non-commissioned officers and privates, 9,933. The number of buglers employed is 60, and the number of musicians 258.— The headquarters of the Army are in Washington, D. C. The number of commissioned officers in the militia, is 74,868, and of non-commissioned officers, musicians, and privates, 2,105,524, making a total of 2,180,486 fighting men. Truly, we are inclined to believe that the United States are "a power on earth," whatever we may hear to the contrary. The number of military posts is 9, and of arsenals 20.
