PHILADELPHIA, October 29.
The Governor of this commonwealth has issued a proclamation, offering a reward of Five hundred Dollars for apprehending any of the persons concerned in lately setting fire to sundry stables in this city.
In addition to the above, a few private citizens have offered a reward of Five hundred Dollars for the same purpose.
Oct. 30. Tuesday last, about one o'clock, the Stable of Mr. Thomas Fisher, in Spruce-street, caught fire, which consumed the roof and upper floor, and a quantity of hay, &c, and communicated to a brick stable adjoining, belonging to Nicholas Waln, Esq; the roof of which, and about 7 tons of hay, were likewise consumed. Circumstances have created a suspicion that this disaster was occasioned by some evil-disposed person.
Wednesday afternoon, about, 4 o'clock, the city was again alarmed by the cry of fire, which appeared in the neighbourhood of Dock-street, and destroyed a frame-house, containing a quantity of hay.
Four persons, suspected of being concerned in the late attempts to set fire to the city, were yesterday apprehended, and are now confined for trial.' The suspicions against two of them are very strong. The information which will be had from them will, probably, bring to light the whole of the daring plot.
