An Appeal
In answer to Hoover's appeal for clothing for the hundreds of thousands of underclad children of Europe, Gardiner women are busy in the work of getting the city's allotted quota. The things needed are very simple: children's clothing, new or old; and outfits ("layettes," ) for babies. All these things may be made of partly-worn materials. Any half-worn or outgrown clothing, cotton, wool, or half and half, can be used by the workers, and made over into various garments. Many former Red Cross workers have already come forward; many more will surely do so, when once the desperate need is understood. Those who cannot give time for making and mending, will perhaps give materials, or money for the purchase of them.
All contributions, whether of money, new material, or half-worn and outgrown clothing, may be sent to the house of Mrs. F. N. Boston, 22 Dennis street, Gardiner. In cases where it is not convenient to send them, they will be called for at the house of the donor.
The cost of the "layette," or infant's outfit, is estimated at $2. Persons who prefer to make their contribution in this form may do so by sending this sum to Mrs. Boston.
