A gentleman in Havana, writing to his
friend in New Orleans, on the subject of
the numerous piracies committed on that
coast says, "It will be impossible for all
the navy of the United States, or all
the navies of Europe to prevent it, unless
there should be a change in the govern-
ment, or in the character and disposition
of the inhabitants of this island. Many of
them think it a meritorious act to rob or
murder an American, and they publicly
acknowledge and boast that near Four
hundred have been Murdered near Cape
Romano."
