BOSTON. May 6.

From Halifax, April 28

"Sir George Prevost has embarked at New-Brunswick, in the Cossack, for England; and Sir John Sherbrooke will depart immediately for Canada, to take the command there. Admiral Griffith has sailed for Bermuda, to sit on the trial of Captain Carteret, late of the Pomone.—

There is little doubt, but he (Carteret) will swing for it—or has by this time. The paragraph in one of the Boston papers, which stated that the Captain of the Furieuse had been sent home in irons, ought to be contradicted. Captain Mouncey commands the Furieuse; and a more worthy officer does not exist. The printer must have mistaken him for the man Carteret. Sir A. Cochrane goes home, after the command of the whole coast. All the British ships are sent home immediately on their arrival. The Bacchante, Galatea, Medina, Escort, &c. have sailed; and all this before we received the strange news from France. What alteration this will make, the Lord only knows.

The naval Peace Establishment here will be, the Bulwark flag-ship, five frigates, and six or eight sloops."
